World Heritage Decorated Farmhouses of Halsingland

“The Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland” has been a World Heritage Site since the summer of 2012, when during the World Hertige Site meeting in St.Petersburg, the Committee made the decision to grant World Heritage List status.

This was the result of targeted work in a broad collaboration that had been under way for 17 years. Representatives from Swedish government agencies as well as representatives from the farmhouses nominated participated in the meeting in St. Petersburg.

Outstanding universal value

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee was unanimous in its decision that the Hälsingland farmhouses possess outstanding universal value. The farmhouses fills a gap in the World Heritage List, since construction by farmers had previously been underrepresented on the World Heritage List.

Through declaring it a World Heritage Site, the entire world will be able to acquaint itself with Hälsingland’s outstanding culture of construction and decoration.
