Recipient of World Heritage Scholarship 2022 is awarded to Mikaela Steby Stenfalk
Region Gävleborg is awarding a World Heritage scholarship/residence for the fourth time. The World Heritage Scholarship is international in order to expand the context based on the World Heritage Hälsingegårdar in the form of artistic practicing, improvement or competence-enhancing or research exchange, all in the spirit of UNESCO's intentions.
The World Heritage Scholarship is aimed at professional cultural creators as well as people who work with, research or have other connections to world heritage.
The fourth call received 52 applications from 20 different countries, of which 25 were national and 27 internationals. The Culture and Competence Board at Region Gävleborg has decided that the World Heritage Scholarship 2022 will go to the artist Mikaela Steby Stenfalk.
Motivation:
"Dialog between two interiors" is an artistic project based on emotional values and human collective memory. In a visual dialog between the World Heritage Hälsingegårdar and the World Heritage Notre Dame in Paris, the artist and architect Mikaela Steby Stenfalk wants to connect these two world heritage sites. Two world heritage sites which contain historically valuable paintings, decorations and stories, where Notre Dame represents an assembled picture of a partially lost world heritage site, while Hälsingegårdarna stands for what is still alive and well preserved.
Architecture, sculptural works and photographic expressions are vital parts of Mikaela Steby Stenfalk's art and practice. With the project "Dialog between two interiors" in her work, the artist is keen to show interiors from Notre Dame in a Hälsingegård and Hälsinge interiors in Notre Dame, in order to link the two world heritage sites. There are of course differences, but also similarities - colorful painting, biblical stories and a strong desire to communicate it through architecture. With this as a basis, a new artistic meeting is created between Paris and Hälsingland.
