Kristofers, Stene, Järvsö
Kristofers, part of the Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland World Heritage site is situated in the village of Stene in Järvsö parish.
It would be easy to think that the farm, with its World Heritage status, had settled into life as a museum, but here among a conglomeration of buildings we farm cows and sheep, and modern functions coexist with cultural heritage values. It has been farmed by the same family since the 1500s.
The festivities building has wall paintings from the mid 1800s by the Ljusdal painter Anders Ädel, and stencilling. Externally, the house is ornamented with a typical Järvsö porch.
For those who want to sample life at Kristofers, visitors staying overnight in summer can rent the farmhands' quarters in the gatehouse. The price includes a tour of the festivities building.
Otherwise, tours of the farm are by appointment. We also accept special bookings for tours and refreshments from groups and corporate bodies.
In cooperation with Järvsö Local History Society, excursions to Kristofers are available at 6 pm on 8, 15 and 23 July.
